Another Late Post Race Post

So these races have been kind of takes a few days to recover from the party to the point where I would like to write about it, so I appologize for my lack of haste in doing the updates. The fixed gear community in Nashville deserves more. But at least now they do have a bike shop that carries things that you normally had to special order in the past and that bike shop is open on Sundays. In the past if you needed bike stuff on Sunday you either had to wait or go out to longer. Anyway to get to the point. HALCYON BIKES is now open and they came in with a bang, helping out with the most recent Alleycat race. The race started off strong, the offical turnout was counted at 42. The manifest included 5 grocery stores that had to be reached in order to win the race. Once again there were people that were competive and people that were more laid back and went to bars in between stops. The final stop was Halcyon Bikes (yes, I am dropping the name once again), where they had a great spread of Vegan BBQ and Yazoo Beer. A couple of bands played and there were lots of people there despite the cold weather...good times were had. Guys sticking around for late night activities ended up down on Lower Broadway with a trip to Robert's then on to Decades. More details about those activities can be found here:

There is still talk of Roller Races once Brian's Physics students crank out the circuitry....and there is talk of another Alleycat that involves taking tickets from parking garages to keep up with checkpoints.

happy holidays!

Race this Saturday at 2pm, usual Centennial Park meeting spot. Bring $10 to purchase food for the less fortunate. The length should be between 5 and 10 miles. So far it doesn't appear that it will be brutally cold or raining, so come on out. After party to follow...which will not be right next to the start, but shouldn't be too far away.

The Real Post Race Post

So its been a week since the race and things are starting to feel normal again. My brother was able to recover his bike. Someone spotted it locked up at the mission and he came down and retrieved it. Hangovers/moral hangovers are gone. With this I will post the winners. Whether or not they like their pictures is to be decided. 1st through 3rd Left to Right Top to Bottom.

1st place: Edward
2nd place: John
Tie for 3rd: John and Brian

It looks like there are going to be some Roller Races coming up this winter (stay tuned for dates and locals) and Halcyon Bikes is tentatively scheduled for opening December 1st.

Things Got Wild...Missing Bike

So the race went off without a hitch...until after the race. 1st place winner Edward took a post race/booze fall that resulted in face wound. Then it was decided that the remainder of the crew was going to find/crash the mysterious Bike Peddler Pub Crawl. For some reason no one that was doing the pub crawl knew anything about it, but we were at least able to find out that it was in East Nashville. Enroute to the Pub Crawl we decided to stop off at the Gallery Hop in the Arcade building. This proved to be more than a small stop and more booze was consumed. By the time we were ready to leave and intercept the pub crawl some of the crew was fairly smashed. One of the guys in from out of town decided he would try to find his way back to Hillsboro Village. He did make it back, but lost his bike in the process and cannot remember where it went. If anyone sees a green fixed gear bike with red deep v's please respond to this post so we can recover the bike. So we ended up at the Rosepepper and found the pub crawl. We were surprised to see that the event had que cards. Seems kind of fishy that no one knew anything about it, but then it was organized enough to have que cards. hmmmm. So we rode from the Rosepepper up to the Family Wash and drank another beer. There were at least two wrecks in this short stretch. Then the que cards told everyone the pub crawl was finished. We were invited to someone's house to drink some more beer with the stipulation that we bring out own. With that we were on our way to the Springwater.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the race. Please excuse me I am going to ride off last nights debauchery.

A little late, Critical Mass??? and Another Race

...on the update but its here. The FM.24.08 was a blast. These guys were serious. It wasn't just an alley cat, it was a legitimate road race. The top teams were not messing around, but some of the others were. It made for a good mix of partying and competition. I do have some photos, but none that great. More pictures here: The course was a 12 mile loop around East Atlanta and into downtown. There were 4 checkpoints aside from the start/finish. The winning teams completed about 40 laps in a 24 hour period. The winning solo riders rode around 30 laps each. Over 50 teams were in the competition. I will definitely be back next year.

So word on the street is that Nashville Critical Mass is back in action meeting the last Friday of every month at 5:30pm in Dragon Park. The next one will be held on the same weekend as the next Alleycat Race which will be held on Saturday November 1st. Details are still being worked out. Costume Contest? Maybe.

It is a little late for this post, but in a couple of days a really cool race is going on in ATL.  The FM24 (fastermoustache 24 hour alleycat race) is a relay race for teams of up to six.  Check back in a few days for pictures and details.  Should be a blast.

...and the winners are...

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the race on Saturday.  Next time we will do something to keep better track of everyone and their times.  For now I will post what I remember.

1st-Adam (from bike peddler)
2nd-Andy (opening used bike shop in November)
3rd&4th-Sun&Ski Sports Guys
5th-Team Skum Life

Since the top 3 finishers declined their prizes Team Skum Life swept the awards.

Right now we are tentatively planning on having a race around Halloween so look out.  In the meantime check fix memphis for their race on the 11th of September.

Alright we can't tell you what the race course is going to be, but we will let some info leak and let you know what we have on hand for the first 3 finishers.

1st place-set of tires
2nd place-floor pump
3rd place-seat bag

Everything is coming together. Still meeting at Centennial Park. Manifests issued 7:55, Race at 8:00pm sharp. Be there or Be square. Cookout to follow with DJ's, Live Music, Food and of Course...Beer.

Monday, August 18, 2008

So we kind of gave some false info on the last post.  The August 30th Alleycat will meet at Centennial Park not Dragon Park.  Everything else is the same.  Cookout/Afterparty to follow, location is still disclosed, but will be on the manifest.  So if you show up by 7:55 you will have 5 minutes to call your friends and tell them about it before you can take off.  Ride Party Party Party Ride.  Check out the new flier.

Labor Day Weekend Alley Cat

Details Details Details.

Its time for another race!  Meet at the dragon in Dragon Park on Saturday August 30th (Labor Day Weekend).  The bike race will start at 8:00pm sharp.  Manifests will be handed out at 7:55pm and will be available to latecomers for a short time after the start.  Location of the afterparty/cookout will be on the manifest as the last checkpoint.  The location is near Dragon Park, that is all that can be said right now.  All drivetrains and all abilities are welcome, the goal is to have a good time and create community.  If you can't win on a bike maybe you might be able to find someone to challenge you in chugging beer.  There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers.  The cookout will be be vegetarian/canivorian/beer drinker friendly, all are welcome.  Food and a limited amount beverages will be provided (though the beverage supply can/will be extended).  See you there!
